GODSPEED brought the acoustic phenomenon of the Doppler effect to life in an engaging and experimental performance hosted at the hello yellow Velodrome by Schachermayer as part of Ars Electronica 2024. The project combined sound art and motion to create an immersive auditory experience.

Using a bicycle equipped with speakers, operated by cyclist Andi Liska, the performance explored how the pitch of sound shifts with motion, demonstrating the Doppler effect in real time. As the bike circled the velodrome, harmonic drones shifted dynamically, filling the space with evolving soundscapes that captivated the audience.

The event drew around 60 visitors, transforming the velodrome into a communal space where science and art intertwined. People relaxed on the grass, listening to the layered tones created by the interplay of speed, direction, and sound. Feedback from attendees highlighted the potential for future developments of the project, which aims to expand on this unique fusion of movement and music.

GODSPEED was a remarkable example of how experimental sound art can inspire, educate, and connect audiences, even on the outskirts of the Ars Electronica Festival.
